The Company:
Greengard, Inc., www.greengardinc.com, is a full service Civil Engineering, Surveying and Land Planning firm that specializes in residential, commercial and industrial land development. The firm has been a market leader for over 50 years using its established relationships with local governments throughout Chicagoland to help create solutions that exceed client expectations. Don Fielding is an owner of Greengard and has been a TAB member since 1999.

The Business Issue:
As Don approached retirement, he recognized the need to develop a core team of next-generation leaders and considered alternative ownership models for the future. He needed a sounding board for practical advice and referrals to proven professionals to help think through the transition process.

TAB Board and Coaching Session Impact:
Don's TAB Board initially helped him evaluate and decline an offer to acquire his firm by a national company looking to enter the Chicago market. A valuation firm, referred by a TAB member, was hired to value the firm during the process.

Don and his facilitator, Mike Brown, worked together to evaluate and strengthen the core leadership team utilizing assessments, coaching, strategic planning tools and offsite retreats. With revenues doubling along the way, his TAB Board also aided Don with their advice, coaching and experience. Through this process, a group of future owners were identified and offered the opportunity to acquire a portion of the company.

Business Result:
Don now has three additional partners and a clear transition path for complete ownership transition going forward.
